I must admit you did an excellent job with this game. The narrative and graphics are just WOW. I love your art style. I can say it's the best graphics quality I have seen recently. Don't give up on this project and everything you are working on. Compared to other similar game / story makers, you are simply top quality. This story reminds me of my life story, not in this type of relationship and not in the same age difference (I was then 34 and she 19), but it brings back memories. I loved avalon and am really enjoying Petal as well. Great writing, as usual! I kind of wish Petal was a step daughter, but understand it wouldn't be quite as Forbidden! Dialogue between characters is great - really enjoy your work!!
The story is amazingly engaging I actually was suprised and outraged with what happened to chuck in his past and I found it difficult to play this just for the pleasure of the mature content. I did find few times where the dialog was off because of an extra word being thrown in but they were far and few between that it didn't bother me at all and it kind of fit because when your having a charged conversation it makes sense that you won't always talk in perfect english. The art is top notch I thought because it was a ren'play that it would be a little clunky but to my suprise it was beautifully done all the way through. I know that every time the relationship took another I felt I was actually taking that step with the characters. The use of mostly first person perspectives for the main character really added the the ability to be immersed in the story. I look forward to seeing this story continue and even the sequel that is talked about in the ending scene of chapter 3. You did an amazing job on this story and I know that you said this is an experament of your and that your trying something new with story but you did such an amazing job so far with this that I wouldn't have been able to tell if. For those who are looking for a casual story driven spicy game this is definatly worth a try and don't worry if your not to big into the taboo side of fetishism because the whole story basically says that they are two fully grown adults and so it shouldn't matter. So far this game is a 10/10 and only getting better.

I first discovered Avalon a few months ago, and absolutely fell in love with the characters and their stories, so I was already excited to see Petal's story. As other's have already stated, it's been sweet and endearing and the characters feel like real people that I would love to meet on the street one day and strike up a conversation with. You have done a wonderful job and I am looking forward to the next chapters.

My wife and I have been trying to have kids for so long yet after we read a petal among thorns up to volume 3 we actually started roleplaying, a bit of domination (from both sides) and we are expecting twins. We were glued to the screen wanting to know what happens next. We also started naked yoga a few months ago and. Your novel is really the reason that we are expecting. I am sorry we could not buy the novel finances are low because we are saving for our kids future. You made our marriage more of a pleasure. I'm 44 my wife 28 yet she said with this novel I am 30 years old again. Though we only have two sounds from the novel (swallowing & jumping in the pool) it does not really matter. I thank you. I just played through all 3 chapters in nearly one sitting. It was absolutely enthralling! All I could think about all day was clocking out of work and continuing the game. I stayed up all night playing it. Music is wonderful and complimented each scene perfectly. Petal's character is crazy good, and her conversations, her dialogue, the way she teases and dances around topics is very artfully done, and really brings her to life very effectively. If there is any small con to be found, the MC sometimes comes off tropey or cringy, but still his character is leagues better than what you typically find in entertainment of this subject matter. What a stellar experience and I just want to play through it over and over again. Can't wait for chapters 4 and 5 and the sequel. Instant loyal fan.

First of all really awesome novel! I tried the first 2 chapters and loved it! I bought the 3rd chapter and started over, but now Petal won't use the name I chose for her to call me. I tried changing it in the names and relations, but she still just says dad. The name I chose did work before I installed the 3rd chapter, any help would be appreciated.
To clarify she uses what I want when being intimate, but not what I want when she addresses me normally. Also this is on the android download, haven't tried it on PC yet.

I hadn't realized how many people don't like that and prefer the option to choose. I'll add back in the option to choose the relationship titles in the next update. I apologize, Kamaralyn.

So, yet another review for anyone on the fence about whether or not this novel is worth their time, let alone an actual price. Let me give a brief preface before beginning. I never read visual novels. I have always disliked them. I prefer more interactivity personally. 90% of the time I immediately pass a game over if it's classified as a visual novel. I honestly have no idea how I ended up on this page. I can only assume I did something wonderful to someone somewhere in my life, and this is my reward.
This story is a magnificent piece of fiction. It manages to be erotic without being vulgar. It's sweet without being sappy. It's appealing without being pandering. Every moment is heartwarming and engaging. The protagonist is both relatable and understandable. Petal is a character you feel is a real person, with a real personality, and real desires. You feel the struggles of the characters and their desire to continue exploring their new reality in every frame. You feel compelled to continue, every day in the story being a wonderful new experience. Which is precisely what this novel is. It's not a mere series of pictures solely designed to stimulate, it's not just a story, it's an experience.
This is the only game I have ever paid for on Itch.io. It is certainly the only visual novel I've ever enjoyed (I did try many before deciding I disliked the genre). This is the only time I have ever created a profile on a site, ANY site, for the sole purpose of leaving a review. A major problem with porn these days is that it's often stale, bland, and flat. Romance, teasing, build up, and anticipation are important aspects of sex often missed in nearly every industry. When you bring these aspects into a story, you can greatly enhance the experience for the reader. I take great care to sculpt my characters to be actual people you'd want to engage with in real life and not just some random pizza man bringing a one-topping pie with extra sausage.

In fact, Adult Visual Novels can often be so wonderful to experience that you get addicted and want to try out other AVNs. I know it's jarring for some people but the censorship confused a lot of people because they weren't sure what the relationship was supposed to be. The allure of the game is supposed to be the taboo aspect. If we get enough complaints about the titles, we'll change it back so you can name them whatever you want. We'll add yours to the list. I recommend starting over from the beginning because there are some changes to the game. If you don't want to read through Chapters 1 and 2 again, you can fast forward through the game with Ctrl very quickly to get to Chapter 3.

We've had some negative experiences with donation sites such as Patreon and SubscribeStar. We're currently evaluating if we want to traverse that path again or not. We'll keep you updated on that front if we do decide to re-enter that territory. For now, we just want everyone to enjoy our work. :-)

There's a lot of pressure that goes along with taking monthly donations. I felt persistent guilt when I wasn't working which means I was pushing myself to work 12+ hours a day. Many developers do the opposite, they know they have a monthly guaranteed payment coming so they lax on work. It also inspires developers to never complete a project. When I announced Avalon would be complete, 30% of my Patrons dropped support. It still took me four or five months to complete it too. There are some developers that stretch out their releases for months just to keep a project in production.
It's not that it's inherently a bad system but it certainly has its pros and cons. Selling my product when I complete milestones feels more natural. I can work at my own pace and I get rewarded for accomplishments which feels more gratifying. It allows people to pay for a tangible product instead of simply having faith in the artist and donating based on the artist's previous work and their promises.
The major reason though is probably that I have a difficult time with jealousy. I have a bad habit of comparing my numbers with other artists in the community and I get extremely depressed when I'm significantly less popular than others. It's something I'm trying to work on but currently my sin is envy.
Hey... I have considered the same thing many times. Getting paid monthly and only releasing every 3rd month . BUT... I work my ass off every night and every weekend week after week and even though I don't release an update each month I feel I have worked for it. It is up to patrons to sponsor or not, we as devs do not force anyone in fact I am so grateful that I do have fans for my games.
Your last comment regarding jealousy. Although I don't agree that it's jealousy but rather a fear of feeling rejected. I have those. I look at games that released this year and they patron support numbers are 5 no 10 times more than what i have to show for 3.5yrs of doing this. I have thought about stopping 4 times since bringing out my latest game. 7 times when i did RTP my previous game. NO it's just feeling depressed cause we both know how hard we work at it and our products are worth it. Unfortunately most players want easy fap games with non existing stories not something that actually has a story with character arcs. Now and Then game is prime example. As much as I shouldn't say it as a dev, i am little jealous of iLS for writing such an amazing story, yet he gets way less support than either of us.
SO... relish in the support you do have and keep going forward and ask you players if they mind paying monthly and having to wait for an update. I have a feeling 95% would say they don't mind ( i have actually asked my patrons about this yrs ago). In patron you can always choose the option for players to pay per project..
And trust me you have nothing to worry about, your games are super good.

I've seen that in a few VNs I've downloaded on my android device as well. I have no idea why it would request access to files on your phone. A Petal Among Thorns has no programming inside of it that interferes with anything outside of it.
I asked around about this. I outsource my Android build to a professional porter. Apparently it asks for permission to access your device in order to save the game in a way that makes that save accessible to future releases. That's what I gathered, at least. Sorry for the confusion.

I do have the kinks mostly planned out. I'm not looking to do anything overly extreme. We'll experiment with toys in the sequel if I get to there. Right now we're building up the sexual content slowly between the MC and Petal. I am open to suggestions if you join my Discord.

I did play with the idea of that. However, if I were to give that option, I'd basically have to make the game twice. Once where MC is dom and Petal is sub, and again where MC is sub and Petal is dom. And while that might not sound so bad because there's only Petal in the game, it would make certain plot elements later not work. This is going to lean more into femdom as Petal will be the one moving the sexual content forward. But there will be optional content where she pushes MC to be the dom as when she asked him to reenact the sexual interaction she witnessed between him and her mother.
This is sort of experimental for me. I'm not sure if enough people are going to want a femdom game like this so it may flop. But I enjoy making it so it's worth it either way. I'll try to take polls to find out what kinks are the most popular and try to feature those more elaborately.
That's cool. I like the sound of "toys in the sequel" , so I really hope it gets there, especially if it stays with Petal in charge. Does that mean there is a chance for some strapon scenes if we do get a sequel?
We'll see. It depends on how the story evolves and grows. I don't know if a strapon would match the characters at this point but perhaps later on it would fit in just fine. One step at a time. :-)
TBH, I don't at all get the impression that Petal is interested in being a dom or taking on the male role. Everything I've seen her say and do is focused on building her confidence and exploring her feelings as a woman; she clearly loves being feminine.
I really liked how Petal is pushing the MC into reenacting. I now hope she has seen even more sexual interaction--and we learn of this in the coming week. Her pushing him seems very reasonable, based upon his built in reluctance. She has to make him see through it and let him know she wants what only he can give her.
You are the best at giving us a peek at their thoughts, and seeing that these two are anxious but inching closer to being truly and deeply in love. And heck, rules are made to be broken, or amended, right?

Lockheart, just stay as you are. I belive we all are greatly enjoying your stories. I have discovered Avalon by total coincidence and liked it after just only few screens. And when the story ended I loved it more than anything. It is definitely hard to tell story of recovery from such event and you did it greatly in funny but still serious way with focus on all characters and their motivations and backstories. Not everyone is bothered to develop all characters in their stories but you did. And then there is Penny - that character is absolutely hilarious and has huge potencial. I am happy she has her own story too. And now there is another promissing story. I mean I am happy like child in a candy store so the direction you are following now is definitely good for me :-)

Why does it say role play and customize when not long after it starts she is revealed to be your daughter? You might as well just point out that its father daughter incest if that's the story you are going for.
Incest is strictly forbidden on Patreon. If any game has incestuous content, the developer is liable to be suspended or outright removed from the Patreon platform, which could cost the developer what little support they might have. A Petal Among Thorns is about a middle aged man that brings a friend to a vacation retreat. You can apply whatever title you like to your friend. It's completely up to you and I, the developer, would never impede your freedoms to make whatever choices you want. :-)
Well if your going for that you have to change the story based on the players inputs. change the characters back story based on what the player puts as relation because i put in something and the dialog made no sense at all.
That's why I make them free after two weeks. Supporters get early access but I'd still like everyone to be able to play. The system I have in place is a nice compromise. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Lockheart has more than two games with great graphics and writing. ‘AVALON’ is a completed game. ‘PENNY for your thoughts’ and this game (A PETAL …) are still in development. Avalon is so immersive that it had me tearing up at times—I felt so connected to the people in the story. I am not doing justice to how much I was moved playing through Avalon.

It's not a mere series of pictures solely designed to stimulate, it's not just a story, it's an experience.
This is the only game I have ever paid for on Itch.io. It is certainly the only visual novel I've ever enjoyed (I did try many before deciding I disliked the genre). This is the only time I have ever created a profile on a site, ANY site, for the sole purpose of leaving a review. I did that because I felt so very much compelled to encourage others to take this journey. You will not regret it.

A major problem with porn these days is that it's often stale, bland, and flat. Romance, teasing, build up, and anticipation are important aspects of sex often missed in nearly every industry. When you bring these aspects into a story, you can greatly enhance the experience for the reader. I take great care to sculpt my characters to be actual people you'd want to engage with in real life and not just some random pizza man bringing a one-topping pie with extra sausage.

In fact, Adult Visual Novels can often be so wonderful to experience that you get addicted and want to try out other AVNs. I know it's jarring for some people but the censorship confused a lot of people because they weren't sure what the relationship was supposed to be. The allure of the game is supposed to be the taboo aspect. If we get enough complaints about the titles, we'll change it back so you can name them whatever you want. We'll add yours to the list. I recommend starting over from the beginning because there are some changes to the game. If you don't want to read through Chapters 1 and 2 again, you can fast forward through the game with Ctrl very quickly to get to Chapter 3.

We've had some negative experiences with donation sites such as Patreon and SubscribeStar. We're currently evaluating if we want to traverse that path again or not. We'll keep you updated on that front if we do decide to re-enter that territory. For now, we just want everyone to enjoy our work. :-)

What type of negative experience on Substar If i may ask? Substar doesn't work for everyone it seems but for some it's really great.
There's a lot of pressure that goes along with taking monthly donations. I felt persistent guilt when I wasn't working which means I was pushing myself to work 12+ hours a day. Many developers do the opposite, they know they have a monthly guaranteed payment coming so they lax on work. It also inspires developers to never complete a project. When I announced Avalon would be complete, 30% of my Patrons dropped support. It still took me four or five months to complete it too. There are some developers that stretch out their releases for months just to keep a project in production.
It's not that it's inherently a bad system but it certainly has its pros and cons. Selling my product when I complete milestones feels more natural. I can work at my own pace and I get rewarded for accomplishments which feels more gratifying. It allows people to pay for a tangible product instead of simply having faith in the artist and donating based on the artist's previous work and their promises.
The major reason though is probably that I have a difficult time with jealousy. I have a bad habit of comparing my numbers with other artists in the community and I get extremely depressed when I'm significantly less popular than others. It's something I'm trying to work on but currently my sin is envy.
Hey... I have considered the same thing many times. Getting paid monthly and only releasing every 3rd month . BUT... I work my ass off every night and every weekend week after week and even though I don't release an update each month I feel I have worked for it. It is up to patrons to sponsor or not, we as devs do not force anyone in fact I am so grateful that I do have fans for my games.
Your last comment regarding jealousy. Although I don't agree that it's jealousy but rather a fear of feeling rejected. I have those. I look at games that released this year and they patron support numbers are 5 no 10 times more than what i have to show for 3.5yrs of doing this. I have thought about stopping 4 times since bringing out my latest game. 7 times when i did RTP my previous game. NO it's just feeling depressed cause we both know how hard we work at it and our products are worth it. Unfortunately most players want easy fap games with non existing stories not something that actually has a story with character arcs. Now and Then game is prime example. As much as I shouldn't say it as a dev, i am little jealous of iLS for writing such an amazing story, yet he gets way less support than either of us.
SO... relish in the support you do have and keep going forward and ask you players if they mind paying monthly and having to wait for an update. I have a feeling 95% would say they don't mind ( i have actually asked my patrons about this yrs ago). In patron you can always choose the option for players to pay per project..
And trust me you have nothing to worry about, your games are super good.

I've seen that in a few VNs I've downloaded on my android device as well. I have no idea why it would request access to files on your phone. A Petal Among Thorns has no programming inside of it that interferes with anything outside of it.
I asked around about this. I outsource my Android build to a professional porter. Apparently it asks for permission to access your device in order to save the game in a way that makes that save accessible to future releases. That's what I gathered, at least. Sorry for the confusion.

I was just wondering if the characters would both have the opportunity to be sub and dom, or possibly even active and receptive.
I did play with the idea of that. However, if I were to give that option, I'd basically have to make the game twice. Once where MC is dom and Petal is sub, and again where MC is sub and Petal is dom. And while that might not sound so bad because there's only Petal in the game, it would make certain plot elements later not work. This is going to lean more into femdom as Petal will be the one moving the sexual content forward. But there will be optional content where she pushes MC to be the dom as when she asked him to reenact the sexual interaction she witnessed between him and her mother.
This is sort of experimental for me. I'm not sure if enough people are going to want a femdom game like this so it may flop. But I enjoy making it so it's worth it either way. I'll try to take polls to find out what kinks are the most popular and try to feature those more elaborately.
That's cool. I like the sound of "toys in the sequel" , so I really hope it gets there, especially if it stays with Petal in charge. Does that mean there is a chance for some strapon scenes if we do get a sequel?
We'll see. It depends on how the story evolves and grows. I don't know if a strapon would match the characters at this point but perhaps later on it would fit in just fine. One step at a time. :-)
TBH, I don't at all get the impression that Petal is interested in being a dom or taking on the male role. Everything I've seen her say and do is focused on building her confidence and exploring her feelings as a woman; she clearly loves being feminine.
I really liked how Petal is pushing the MC into reenacting. I now hope she has seen even more sexual interaction--and we learn of this in the coming week. Her pushing him seems very reasonable, based upon his built in reluctance. She has to make him see through it and let him know she wants what only he can give her.
You are the best at giving us a peek at their thoughts, and seeing that these two are anxious but inching closer to being truly and deeply in love. And heck, rules are made to be broken, or amended, right?

Lockheart, just stay as you are. I belive we all are greatly enjoying your stories. I have discovered Avalon by total coincidence and liked it after just only few screens. And when the story ended I loved it more than anything. It is definitely hard to tell story of recovery from such event and you did it greatly in funny but still serious way with focus on all characters and their motivations and backstories. Not everyone is bothered to develop all characters in their stories but you did. And then there is Penny - that character is absolutely hilarious and has huge potencial. I am happy she has her own story too. And now there is another promissing story. I mean I am happy like child in a candy store so the direction you are following now is definitely good for me :-)

Why does it say role play and customize when not long after it starts she is revealed to be your daughter? You might as well just point out that its father daughter incest if that's the story you are going for.
Incest is strictly forbidden on Patreon. If any game has incestuous content, the developer is liable to be suspended or outright removed from the Patreon platform, which could cost the developer what little support they might have. A Petal Among Thorns is about a middle aged man that brings a friend to a vacation retreat. You can apply whatever title you like to your friend. It's completely up to you and I, the developer, would never impede your freedoms to make whatever choices you want. :-)
Well if your going for that you have to change the story based on the players inputs. change the characters back story based on what the player puts as relation because i put in something and the dialog made no sense at all.

Lockheart has more than two games with great graphics and writing. ‘AVALON’ is a completed game. ‘PENNY for your thoughts’ and this game (A PETAL …) are still in development. Avalon is so immersive that it had me tearing up at times—I felt so connected to the people in the story. I am not doing justice to how much I was moved playing through Avalon.
