A Petal Among Thorns - Chapter 5 (Final) Release!
Hey fans!
I've got the final release of A Petal Among Thorns for download here. I've started some of scaffolding of A Moment of Bliss, the sequel to A Petal Among Thorns. I've created two new characters, built the intro, and today I'm going to work on building the main house. There's a lot to do, but I'd love to have a release out at the end of April or beginning of May.
I am going to try to manage some interactive elements in the sequel. There will be clickable objects in scenes and a phone mechanic. However, it won't be a sandbox. Petal will be a major character. So far there are four love interests. You'll get to know Rose and Bliss more intimately, and there's a fourth girl you'll meet outside of home.
Currently, the phone mechanic is planned to heavily involve Suzi. Suzi is the artificial intelligence that you would have met in Penny's game if you played it. If not, don't worry! I'll introduce you to her in A Moment of Bliss.
All this is concept. Any of these features and ideas can change depending on how progress ebbs and flows.
PLEASE NOTE: The final for A Petal Among Thorns will be $2.99 until February 15th. After that, the price will go up to $7.99.

Hey home slice is this same as chapter 5 or is new content?
Same as Chapter 5. I haven't made any changes. The game was on a sort of sale until Feb 15th. Now it's the standard price of $7.99.
That rough buddy but I will say this it's their loss u write great wholesome stories I will try me more consistent in support but just know that it work speaks for it self home slice

I can understand where there is a need for compensation but I can also understand why that `first taste is free' strategy would piss off a lot of people. intentionally or not $3...$10...$20 wouldn't have made much difference if it was upfront at the start.. Personally I'm not bitching at all - your effort deserves compensation however this might dampen your followers enthusiasm for future projects. Ya got to do what ya need to do to keep food on the table. Might have better luck on STEAM?
Steam has banned A Petal Among Thorns from their platform. The loss of the income from Steam that I won't be getting for this work will be immense.
I know charging for the game is an unpopular opinion, especially the way I did it. I specifically did it this way so I could release on Steam as fast as possible. I can't have it free here, and $7.99 over there. So I'd have to make it $7.99 here at the same time it was released there. I'm going to reflect on this new revelation about Steam's decision regarding APAT, then I'll have more information regarding my own decision to charge for the final chapter here.
Good Luck Man- Did Steam give reason or was it an automated cut? Anyway like I said before, ya deserve compensation for your work and resources. It was just how it was played out that kinda sucked causing all the PR bullshit.
I know a few creators that use Patron to get around some of the Steam restrictions but that gets more complicated then it's worth. :/
They were extraordinarily vague on the reason, and said it was virtually entirely subjective. They accused me of trying to dodge their policies, but then never explained what policies they were talking about. It was all very suspicious. I have a feeling I just got the wrong tester, and they had a self-righteous crusade to find any reason to prevent any adult content they could. There are plenty of games with much younger looking characters in sexual situations, and there's even a game on Steam called 'Sex with Hitler'. I just got a bad hand.

I have purchased this game as I have all of your games. I was so excited to read Chapter 5. Then I was so let down by it. All of this build up and all of the extended dialogue and the actual scene was this mundane deed that seemed to be more like just another play time than anything.
You write in just how "special" Petal wanted that moment to be and you end up handcuffing her and the whole moment becomes more of an experimentation than anything. Where was the passion? Where was the emotion and the intense feelings that go with such a "special" moment?
You killed the moment and with it, everything the story was leading up to from the moment Petal and Chester entered the cabin. Is this what we are to expect from a "Moment of Bliss"?
What happened Lockheart? I have bought all of your games and have been a faithful Patreon supporter and I have to say...... The last lewd scene was terrible and not at all what you built it up to be. So sad. Absolutely nothing special about it. If I were Petal I would have curled up on the corner of the bed and cried my eyes out.

I disagree I thought given where each character was at I thought made sense
in my sincere opinion, what you did is something EA would do. You gave us 4 episodes with optional support and now you are charging the final chapter. You should've just put it only to pay since the beginning and yes, I'd had missed this lovely and interesting story but, in the end, I wouldn't be disappointed. I understand every penny will help you making better VNs but, I consider this a dick move.

Charging for quality work isn't a dick move, neither is the fact he gave his work away for free up to this point.
I have to agree, working people up the story without a mention of the cost before hand is a scam move.
Should have promoted it as a partial story at the least. The price isn’t the issue, its how it was done. I can live without the ending just for that,
Another game I followed was forced to start charging partially through due to other platforms and offered it for free till the next update,
I paid for that just out of respect for the authors dedication to his word and will donate more in the future or just buy future work outright on the other platforms.
This is pretty much the exact opposite, more of a dirty move than the story.
I would have had no issue paying for the next project because it was high quality work…but this is entirely different.

Will 'A Moment of Bliss' also be on first person pov? or will it switch to third person like Avalon?
if we paid for a previous version, do we still need to pay for the final chapter?
My understanding of how itch.io works is that if you pay once, it carries into all releases of the game as long as it's on the same page. If not, please let me know.

This endeavor has become too time consuming to do for free. I know it's not going to be a popular move, but every dollar helps me build a bigger and better next Visual Novel. With your support, I can bring you something even more special with my next release.

Charging for the ending is absolute bullshit in my opinion. I feel it is just wrong. Honestly I get you need compensation but forcing people to pay like this at the end is just wrong it so many ways. I suddenly feels like a scam to me. I realize this may not be the case but that is how it feels when you only force payment at the ending.
No matter how good of a creator you are this move of pay for the ending just turned me off. I loved the game but I will NOT be forced to pay for the end when the rest is free. I am insulted you would try something like this and I will avoid anything with your name on it after this.
Jeez dude, it's $3 right now. If you liked that game you'd support indie creators, getting the assets for these novels is expensive enough as it is. But from the way you worded your comment, there's a pretty big guarantee that had the final chapter been free, the author would never have seen a cent from you. If you're completely stint right now, then just enjoy the not insignificant amount of content you've had to play with in chapters 1 through 4.
You do realize that any game you "purchase" here means you can download the rest free? You simply log in and go to your "purchases" and click on the game. It will provide you a free link to download any updates. Seriously. Stop your whining and do the research.
I agree with you Lockheart and my monumental disappointment in the last chapter not withstanding, people should support you by purchasing your content as I always have.
